What are the best OOP testing strategies for database applications?
For speed and simplicity unit tests do not usually hit a real database instance. They may use an in-memory database or a mocked context, record set or repository. The latest ORMs (Object Relational Mappers) facilitate this well. Older versions may not.

What are the key elements of a concise and effective project status update?
A special category of "issues" is "blockers". Blockers should be identified as issues that have occurred that are preventing progress. It should be clearly stated what task is blocked, and what resolution is needed. (Typically this takes the form of who is blocked and on whom they are waiting.) Major downstream consequences of the blockage should be explicitly mentioned.

Resolution Independent Curved Seams in Clothing Animation using a Regular Particle Grid
We present a method for representing seams in clothing animation, and its application in simulation level of detail. Specifically we consider cloth represented as a regular grid of particles connected by spring-dampers, and a seam specified by a closed set of parametric trim curves in the cloth domain.
